There are late fees for a few valuable and/or time-sensitive materials such as: 

  • media equipment
  • carrel keys
  • course reserves
  • items from other libraries (see below)

If you were charged a late fee from ordinary books or videos, that fee was probably assessed by the owning library somewhere else in Alaska.

Our library catalog is shared amongst 80+ Alaskan libraries; so when you place a hold on a title it may come from a library that still charges late fees.

If late fees from another library cause your borrowing privileges to be blocked (many libraries do this when the amount reaches $10), we can't check out to you until the item is returned and the fee is paid.

Rasmuson Library can accept payment of other libraries' late fees, though any debt from a lost or damaged item must be settled directly with the owning library.
